What We Believe

What We Believe
God loves you. He loved you since the moment He first created you. He loved you before, during and after you were born, and will continue to love you your entire life (which is hopefully a journey of faith). God loves you in your failures and your successes. God loves you whether you are heterosexual, homosexual or non-sexual. God loves you whether you are young or old, rich or poor, saint or sinner (and we all are). God loves you in your elation and in your despair. God loves you whether you are an alcoholic, a drug abuser, or sex addict. God loves you whether you are tall or short, fat or skinny, exquisitely beautiful or plain as mud. Do you see a pattern here? God loves you. But like obstinate adolescents we rebel against our Heavenly Father and seek worldly things, selfish things, instead of those good and gracious gifts He pours down upon us all. And yet, like a parent who loves their child even when it disrespects him, God loves us even when we fail Him.
By this time you may be wondering where we stand regarding some of the Hot Button issues facing the Church such as Biblical supremacy and sexuality. We believe that God has put His most important thoughts and commands for us within the Bible. Since we sincerely love God we try to follow His directives with all our hearts. Things like murder, stealing, adultery, homosexuality, etc., are proscribed in both the Old and New Testaments. But you know what? We hardly ever preach on matters of sexuality from the pulpit. It's just not where our primary interest lies. We come together to worship God, His Son Jesus Christ and the Miraculous Holy Spirit. Our preaching is more about becoming children of God than about what or where we have been as children of Adam. We are only saved through Jesus' redeeming, transforming love and none can deny we are all a work in progress.
One last topic that may be of note is: we have a woman priest. Yes, I know, for some people (like me) that were raised within a church that only had male priests it can seem odd. I even had to figure out what to call them since the word priest has always had a male connotation associated with it. Now I look at that noun the same way I would "doctor" or "lawyer" which were both originally male terms. Sometimes I use the terms minister or reverend. The fact is from the earliest days of Christianity to present women have served in some places performing the function of priest. I have to ask myself "is God happy over every soul they save or not?" My belief is God smiles every time a woman minister consecrates and gives communion to the dying or baptizes a baby. I cannot imagine God would rather that the sick person die without the Blessed Sacrament or the baby went un-baptized. And we all know it was never a sin to be a woman!
Our sincere hope and prayer is you will come and join us in worshipping our Wonderful God!
+ May The Holy Spirit guide you, this day and always. +

Old St. Peter's Church affirms the principles of the ancient Catholic Church, which we believe to be the fulfillment of Christian Faith and Order that we have received from Jesus Christ and His Apostles. These principles are true "Matters of Faith", incapable of being changed, compromised or ignored by the stewards and ministers of the Church, and they must be upheld for the common and equal benefit of all the faithful. We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament contain all things necessary to salvation, and are the ultimate rule and standard of faith. We acknowledge the Nicene and Apostle's Creeds as definitive statements of the Christian faith. We emphasize the necessity of the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, and we unfailingly use the words and elements which our Lord ordained. We support the Historic Episcopate as the means of ensuring the unity of the Church and maintaining true Apostolic Succession.

All of the traditional values and doctrines which have made the Christian Church the great witness of our Lord's teachings are alive and well, and we invite you to join us as we celebrate Jesus Christ in the Sacraments and proclaim His message of salvation!
